This Bulletin page provides critical OS, compatibility information for users of V4 products.  Users should check the page regularly or contact support directly.  New 4.3 versions are available only by request.

*HASP KEY INFO - Older HASP 4 Network keys cannot be used on OSX 10.7 (Lion).  Only Hasp 4 Network keys are affected.  Hasp 4 M1 (single station bluish key) keys remain unaffected but do require the newer hasp driver installed.  For greater clarity, look at your key.  If it is red and longer and on it says 'Hasp 4' of 'H4' as in the picture below, then it is a key that will not work in Lion+

This key below is what a newer Hasp HL network key looks like:

Latest Info

Apr '13 - Warning for beta user of PT11 - spotting is broken in PT11 betas.

Mar '13 - NAB 2013 - new stuff announced see main site for info. Version 4.5 will be available this summer.  Upgrade fees apply.  Anyone on yearly support will get this update as part of their support package.  Anyone purchasing a NEW copy of v4pro after April 6 will also receive this update.

Jan '13 - CS version for both v4 and v4pro for use with Mountain Lion available to users by request.

Nov '12 - beta available for v4pro user who need to work on Mountain Lion/Pro tools 10 - contact steve@soundminer.com.

Oct '12 - New reports are coming in that show Mountain Lion/ PT 10.3 may be somewhat problematic.  The issue seems at this point related to the Apple OS and how it works with AVID's spotting API.  Avoid ML/pt10.3 if you can. Reports have been filed with Apple and AVID but no remedy exists at present.

Aug '12 - Mountain lion will be supported for v4 products in an upcoming version 4.5.  4.5 will require an upgrade fee if user is not on support.  Further announcements will come shortly.  Expected date for 4.5 is towards the end of 2012.

Feb '12 - PTX session format now supported in newest versions.  Please contact support@soundminer.com to get access.

Dec. '11 - Pro Tools 10 - please be aware this version represent a brand new session format and as such will hve some incompatibilities with regards to auto-detection and auto setting of the transfer parameters.  Users on PT10(.ptx format) must set the transfer parameters manually at this time or use this workaround:

Save a (optionally empty) pt9 session in the same folder. The workaround works, because Soundminer sees the session folder has changed looks inside it, finds the ptf session file and reads it.  It can be named anything so you could keep make a 48k 24bit session name it 4824.ptf(backsaving as a pt9 compatible session), and drag it in alongside your working session.  Do the same for 4816 and whatever other variants you want.

**Lion is NOT compatible for HOSTING the older Hasp 4 nethasp dongle(HL dongle works though). (Not without upgrading the dongle anyway[which depending on how old it is might require a replacement or simply reprogramming).  The reason is the nethasp license manager is PowerPC only, and well, Apple killed off support for that.  IF you have a HASP HL dongle it can be used but older HASP4 dongle cannot.  HASP HL Network dongles can with some simple modification be used under LION.  Hasp single user (m1) keys are NOT affected.

Nov '11 - v4.3pro now features new multi-metatag feature.  contactsupport@soundminer.com.  New version fixes rewire issue which caused a conflict with PT10.

Oct '11 - beta versions for LION being worked on. PPC support to be dropped in new version.  Existing users of v4/v4pro who wish to beta test version 4.3 for Lion can do so by requesting access at support@soundminer.com

Sept '11 - working on a new version for LION.  It will be free to all registered users.  Shouldn't be too long for those of you on the 'bleeding edge'.

Aug '11 - Fixes available for those running v4 product in environments of 10.6.8.  Contact support@soundminer.com

Lion (Apple 10.7) is not supported as yet.

July '11 - OS version 10.6.8 adversely affects Soundminer. Please avoid if possible until we can diagnose.

We set up the 'newsletter' on our storefront as a way to get out a message regarding 10.6.8 (apple OS) so don;t be alarmed if you receive a Soundminer 'newsletter'

Apple OS 10.6.8 has screwed up some AudioExtraction code we use in Soundminer for some wav files.  We have submitted a bug report to Apple along with some test code for them to execute.

So until/if they patch the problem users have two options:
1. Revert back to earlier OS version
2. Contact support@soundminer.com if you must stay on 10.6.8.

Unfortunate Apple broke code that has been fine for so long.

The temp solution is to embed any files giving issues using a v4pro version built after May 10 - contact sales@soundminer.com to get access.

Here's what we know:

Its files that have malformed chunks on the end, what we've seen is some apps(including old protools) write the overview chunk wrong and that screws up.  The good news is that if you have been using (v4pro 4.2)v94 or higher, whenever you embed files it fixes these issues[we did it from a space saving point of view in the soundfiles], but it makes Apple's code happy too.

The problem you'll see it that the file refuses to play(it'll throw an exception error - unable to get track, or an AUGraph setup error).  And you won't be able to transfer it either.

Same issue affected Lion, so whatever they did was committed into both codebases.
